We started in self employment in London in 1991, with our business "Ecological Garden Design", hence the EGD bit!
We worked mostly for inner city schools designing and implementing wildlife gardens and ponds, including hard landscaping such as patios, pergolas, decking platforms, fencing and rockeries etc.
Building skills had been past down to Steve from his father who was a bricklayer. We renovated our own house in London before selling. Friends saw the work we had done and several asked us to do similar to their houses - and EGD Renovations was born. We went on to spend 6 months painting and decorating in Marbella in Spain, before deciding to settle back in the UK, in Iona's homeland - Cornwall.
Over the past 14 years, we have continued with renovations as well as the occasional garden. Clients have included St Michael's Hotel & Spa in Falmouth, where we renovated the hallways and 62 bedrooms installing large new en-suites in each of them. We designed and installed an Ecology Garden including wildlife pond for Truro School for Girls and have more recently designed an Eco Park for Mount Hawke Academy. We have also worked on the TV set, Doc Martin, and have constructed and painted sets for commercials filmed in Cornwall & Devon.
At EGD Renovations, we have a wealth of experience, and have come across all sorts of scenarios. Whilst we do our best to predict any hitches in a project, we take pride in helping the client find the best solution if an unforeseen problem does occur. We undertake small decorating jobs, as well as larger renovation projects on private homes and commercial buildings.
We will always recommend you obtain the correct planning permissions, follow building regulations and use a qualified plumber and electrician as and when required.
As for gardening, its just really cool to create natural habitats for wildlife. School grounds are particularly satisfying as they are all too often a boring space with little going on. We transform them into areas of interest and adventure, teeming with wildlife, to be explored by the children and used during lessons as a valuable aid to teaching.
